Lately, Covid-19 cases continue to spike across Malaysia. Despite stringent SOP procedures and the reinstatement of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), Selangor has recorded a total of 56,384 active cases, making it the second highest state after Sabah which recorded 46,360 active cases at this point of writing .
SERUM is a social enterprise that channels hygiene kits such as face masks and hand sanitisers from contributors to beneficiaries through collaborators or partners like NGOs, orphanages or organisations. Our funds are mainly contributed by donations collected through fundraising campaigns and also the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) budget by corporate companies.
To assist underprivileged refugees and children in weathering the storm, SERUM Initiative, with the help of its Batch 6 & 7 Fundraisers comprising of 78 altruistic Malaysian youths from UiTM Puncak Alam and UNIMAS, has helped to raise funds amounting to a total of RM 11787.37 in December 2020. Making use of these funds, we had donated 1,268 bottles of 80ml hand sanitisers and 1,268 pieces of reusable face masks for the underserved communities in Selangor. The first batch of beneficiaries are Persatuan Kebajikan Dan Sosial Murni Selangor, Agathians Shelter, Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Istimewa Kajang Selangor, Persatuan Kebajikan Dan Pembangunan Pendidikan, and Chin Students Organization - CSO Cheras Schools. This had finally led to an impact upon the orphans, refugees, and also the urban poor.
Impact delivery to Pusat Kebajikan dan Pembangunan Pendidikan.
Our first stop of impact delivery, with 1000 sets of hygiene kits, went to Pusat Kebajikan dan Pembangunan Pendidikan, at Rawang, Selangor. PKPP strongly upholds the spirit of SDG4 aims by providing education to the poor and underserved minority community via different charities initiates’ and education interventions.
Impact delivery to the Agathians Shelter, Petaling Jaya.
Next, a total of 40 hygiene kits were donated to the Agathians Shelter, a welfare home located at Petaling Jaya. It is a sanctuary for 40 boys who are either orphans, abandoned, or from broken families. In this shelter, the children are provided with essential basic needs such as a place to live, food and education.
Impact delivery to the Chin Students Organization - CSO Cheras School.
Soon after that, we visited the Chin Students Organization - CSO Cheras School with a total of 108 hygiene kits prepared for the children who live there. They are from a minority ethnic group in Myanmar who have been persecuted by the largely Buddhist Myanmar government. CSO aims to support the Chin refugee community by running schools to give those children access to education.
Impact delivery to Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Istimewa Kajang Selangor (PKIK Selangor).
The last beneficiary of the day who received a total of 100 sets of hygiene kits was Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Istimewa Kajang Selangor (PKIK Selangor). PKIK strives to help children/persons with learning disabilities (LDs) towards a life as independent and meaningful as possible.
Meaningful, isn’t it? Our next impact delivery is scheduled in upcoming months. Do you know who the beneficiaries are this time? Stay tuned for it! On a side note, these organizations are totally dependent on donations and contributions from social enterprises, charities, associations, societies, clubs, members of the public, parents and families. Therefore, SERUM hopes to empower young people to step up and take the initiative to make an impact for these underserved communities by participating in our Fundraising from Home program.
Batch 7 Fundraisers from our Fundraising From Home Program.
In this program, participants will be equipped with fundraising skills before embarking on a 2-week implementation to fundraise for our social initiatives. For every RM10 fundraised, we are able to provide 1 reusable face mask and 1 bottle of 80ml hand sanitiser for those in need. 100% of the money is utilised on providing these supplies to the underserved communities. We welcome any youth organisations or individuals to join our monthly Fundraising From Home campaign.
Another way to make an impact together with SERUM is by participating in our Buy & Impact Campaign. We focus on selling items that are masterfully crafted by the refugees. The purchases made from our platform would be used to provide hygiene kits to the underserved communities in Malaysia.
SERUM’s impact-driven 3-layered reusable face masks.
Log on to Shopee and Lazada for our impact-driven 3-layered reusable face masks made by refugee artisans who we empower and support on. We are also open to partnerships with corporate companies or organizations for CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) program. With every two face masks purchased, one will be donated to those in need. For example, back in November 2020, MDTi had joined forces with SERUM Initiative and Incitement for CSR initiatives involving an in-kind donation worth RM200,000, which had impacted over 16,000 people of the underprivileged families.
On a final note, SERUM is grateful for the help and support received throughout the journey. We look forward to any kinds of partnerships or collaboration in future!
